Music Video inspired by the first video ever played on MTV
This was the first project I ever officially directed. I had done things before with friends, but this was the first time working with a bigger team, new people, all professionals, and honestly, I was nervous. I came into class with this idea because I’ve always loved the song Video Killed the Radio Star. It’s one of those songs that instantly lifts my mood and makes me want to dance. When I had the chance to make a music video, I knew this had to be the one.
I pitched my concept, and that same day two classmates came up to me saying they loved it, they ended up becoming my producer and editor.
We shot all the “alien” and fantasy scenes on a green screen, and the rest, everything from the grandma’s house to the TV setups, we filmed in my actual home. The shoot went great, but post-production took longer than expected, mostly because of the visual effects. My editor started the first cut, but after some time passed and we all got busy with other projects, I decided to finish it myself.
I edited the rest of the piece, added color grading, custom visual effects, transitions, animated titles, and even inserted MTV archive footage to bring the whole thing to life.
What started as a simple idea turned into something that really defined my first steps as a director, and also taught me how much I love shaping a project from beginning to end.
