Music Video inspired by the first video ever played on MTV
This was the first project I officially directed. I had created work before with friends, but this was my first time leading a larger team and collaborating with new people in a more professional setting. It was both exciting and challenging.
The idea came from my long-time love for the song Video Killed the Radio Star. It’s a track that has always inspired me visually and emotionally, so when I had the opportunity to direct a music video, it felt like the right place to start.
After pitching the concept, two classmates connected with the idea and joined the project as producer and editor, helping bring the vision into production.
We filmed the fantasy and “alien” sequences using green screen, while the narrative scenes, set in a grandmother’s home and around televisions, were shot in my own house. This combination allowed us to build a contrast between reality and imagination within a controlled environment.
In post-production, I continued shaping the piece through editing, color grading, visual effects, transitions, animated titles, and the integration of archival MTV footage to reinforce the concept.
What began as a simple idea became a defining experience in my development as a director. It solidified my interest in guiding a project from concept through final execution, and in building a cohesive visual language across every stage of the process.
